Protest against racist media15/09/2008 - 09:30 15/09/2008 - 10:00 Angry and outraged at the continual Maori-bashing in the pages of the Dominion Post? Come down to the protest on 15 September - the trial starts immediately after the demo. It is remarkable how the mass media always manage to selectively use any evidence to re-inforce racist stereotypes, capitalist institutions and the status quo. The protest is specifically directed at treatment of the suppressed information published on 14 November 2007 in the Dominion Post and Christchurch Press's front page articles entitled 'The Terror Files'. However, we invite anyone who is interested in addressing wider issues of racism in the media. Five days have been put aside in September for the solicitor-general's case against Dominion Post editor Tim Pankhurst and Fairfax New Zealand. David Collins is taking contempt proceedings against them for publishing 'Operation 8' conversations secretly recorded by police over their two year investigation. The court hearing start on 15th September 2008 in Wellington. |
