Deposition hearing finishes Friday, Oct 3The deposition hearing will conclude tomorrow afternoon, just exactly when the Crown said it would. There will be one final defence submission, followed by a Crown response, and possibly a brief bail argument. The defendants are required to return to court on 17 October to hear the decision of Judge Perkins on whether or not they will be committed to trial. The judge may or may not rule on individual 'informations' (charges). The crown only needs to prove a prima facie case for one charge each to go ahead. Similarly, if they are unsuccessful at getting a committal at this stage, they can simply re-lay the charges and would not have to go through the depositions process again. Most of us are very ready to head home, and the requirement to return so soon is not welcome, least of all for the financial hardship. Nevertheless, return we will to continue our part in this farce of a justice system. |
