October 15th Solidarity - Remember the state terror raids

Two Wellington Operation 8 defendants are challenging their non-association order in the Wellington High Court.

Organising meetings are fortnightly at Thistle Hall, Cuba Street at 6pm.

Raunatiri Hunt, who was arrested on 19 February 2008 as part of Operation 8, will not have to attend the deposition hearing in Auckland in September with his 18 co-accused. His lawyer, Nicholas Dutch, conceded there was a prima facie case to answer but said all of the evidence against Hunt could be dealt with by a depositions hearing in Tauranga.

Benefit For Maori And Anarchists Of New Zealand

On 15th October 2007, over 300 police arrested 17 indigenous, anarchist, environmental and anti-war activists across Aotearoa (New Zealand).

The police wanted to charge 12 activists under the Terrorism Suppression Act for alleged participation in a terrorist organisation. However, these charges won't be laid. After 4 weeks in jail, everyone was released. A trial will still take place though for alleged possession of weapons.

Interested in getting involved in organising for a world free of racism, in support of tino rangatiratanga and freedom of speech?

The October 15th Solidarity crew wants you!

Meetings for the October 15th Solidarity crew are now fortnightly on Tuesday nights at 128 Abel Smith Street at 7pm. We are working around four common points:

-Support for tino rangatiratanga and te mana motuhake o Tuhoe
-Justice for the people raided
-Abolition of the 'terror laws'
-Dropping of the charges against the 18 arrested and charged in the raids.

The October 15th Solidarity group in Wellington is planning a fundraising art auction for the 2nd anniversary of the raids in October 2009. We would love for you to get involved in the planning. There is an organising meeting for anyone interested in working on the art auction fundraiser - that is this Tuesday evening (9 Dec) from 7-8 at 128 Abel Smith Street.

Our final meeting of the year is on Tuesday 16 December at 7pm at 128 Abel Smith - and we will have a potluck dinner to go along with it. Please bring along some food to share if you are able, and your ideas about our solidarity work in the new year. Hope to see you there!

The October 15th Solidarity crew will be meeting fortnightly at Thistle Hall, top of Cuba Street, Wellington at 7pm.

The first meeting of the year is 27 January. We hope that these will alternate with public meetings with invited speakers. More details to follow.

All those with an interest in the struggle for justice and freedom are welcome!

There will be a call-over at the Auckland District Court at 10am for all defendants. The defendants have been excused from this appearance if they have legal representation there. This will be an opportunity to evaluate the stage of various applications regarding admissibility of evidence, stay of proceedings, bail etc.
